Scope Founded in 1914, the Journal of the Indian Institute of Science (Jl of IISc), is a pioneering journal that was started 96 years ago, with a vision to provide the scientific community in the country with the publication of high quality, peer-reviewed research articles being carried out at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The Editorial Committee of the Journal has decided to have a refreshing departure from its present scope of publishing contributed articles and will henceforth publish only “Topical Review Articles”, which will be of interest to a wider cross section to researchers.

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.
