The 30th International Conference on Efficiency, Cost, Optimization, Simulation and Environmental Impact of Energy Systems – ECOS 2017 was held from 2.-6. July 2017 at the San Diego State University in USA. The 253 conference papers were presented in sessions that cover a wide range of multi-disciplinary area of energy engineering and research: Energy Systems, Combustion and Gasification, Organic Rankine Cycle, Cooling and Refrigeration, Clean Energy, Renewable, Vehicular Energy, CHP, Gas Turbines, Heat Pumps, Bio-fuels, Thermodynamic Cycles, Energy Storage, Heat Recovery and CFD, Building Energy, Heat Exchangers, CO2, District Heating, Natural Gas, Industrial Energy Use, Energy Recovery, Exergy Application, Energy policy, Community Energy and Sustainable measures. The ECOS 2017 conference was an excellent platform for professionals and young engineers and scholars to disseminate and share advanced scientific and engineering knowledge. The keynote lectures addressed (i) the security challenges and opportunities facing the utility industry today and (ii) methods for combined cycle plant energy optimization by utilizing a data driven approach to manage plant economics. The topics of the plenary discussions were (i) prospects in thermodynamics - opportunities for research and policy shift and (ii) revolutionary developments in scientific and technical publications and possible survival paths for honest authors.
This Special Issue comprises the selected high quality ECOS 2017 papers that have passed the Energy journal standard peer review process. These papers are an excellent representation of the new finding and knowledge that was brought to the scientific and engineering community at the ECOS 2017.
