Scope The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM)—the flagship publication of SNM—has been ranked the top medical imaging journal worldwide, according to new data released in the 2008 Journal Citation Reports© published by Thomson Reuters. The top ranking recognizes JNM"s exceptional quality and increasing influence as an academic and professional resource. JNM—a peer-reviewed, monthly publication—earned an impact factor of 6.662, representing an increase of more than 12 percent from 2007 (5.915) and more than a 33 percent increase from 2006. The Thomson Reuters rating—announced June 20, 2009—places JNM ahead of other leading imaging journals, including Radiology, Neuroimage, and the European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.
