The Medical Journal of Panama, is the official publishing method of the Panamenian Academy of Medicine and Surgery, of the Gorgas Institute for Health Research (ICGES), the Faculty of Medicina of the University of Panama, and of the Interamerican University of Panama. It is the only medical journal indexed with the current country.
The focus of the journal is to serve as a publication media for healthcare-related research in Panama, Central America, and for the Spanish-speaking Caribbean countries, and for the northern part of Suramérica.
Our vision is to associate with other Medical Academies and Associations in Latin America. The Medical Journal of Panama was published for the first time in 1976. Its official language is Spanish, but we have incorporated summaries in English in an effort to follow international recommendations. We publish an new issue every 4 months, but we look forward to increase the frequency.
The Journal usus open access policies, and accepts unpublished articles, reviews, clinical cases and reports, short communications, radiological cases, and letters to the editor. We also accept letters and opinions from experts in the field. Join the conversation about this journal
Quartiles
The set of journals have been ranked according to their SJR and divided into four equal groups, four quartiles. Q1 (green) comprises the quarter of the journals with the highest values, Q2 (yellow) the second highest values, Q3 (orange) the third highest values and Q4 (red) the lowest values.

SJR
The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from
It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.

Citations per document
This indicator counts the number of citations received by documents from a journal and divides them by the total number of documents published in that journal. The chart shows the evolution of the average number of times documents published in a journal in the past two, three and four years have been cited in the current year. The two years line is equivalent to journal impact factor ™ (Thomson Reuters) metric.

Estimated financial value
It represents the potential financial worth of a journal. It is obtained by multiplying the journal's Estimated APC by the total number of citable documents published over the past five years. This value reflects the hypothetical revenue a journal could generate based on its estimated publication costs and scholarly output.
