Scope

International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture, founded in 1990, provides an international forum for original articles on the latest developments of acupuncture. The journal publishes articles under the following headings: acu-forum (a platform for new ideas and developments that shape the future of acupuncture); clinical research (up-to-the-minute clinical information from practitioner; mechanism research (reports on experimental research on diseases/conditions treated by acupuncture); experience of famous specialists (famous acupuncture clinicians discuss their views and experiences regarding specific topics); clinical experience (lectures outlining a course of treatment or ways of maximizing the therapeutic effect of treatment); manipulation research (discussions of needle manipulation and techniques); acupuncture analgesia (papers on acupuncture used in pain management); acupuncture therapy and follow-up care (papers on the use of acupuncture in the care of patients recovering from surgery); adverse events of acupuncture (discussions of needling accidents, including case histories); short papers (an outlet for practitioners’ useful and practical brief reports); news and activities: reports on meetings, symposia, and conferences in China and other countries. International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture was the first English-language journal aimed at improving practitioners’ clinical skills. On its pages, practitioners will find practical information that can be invaluable in their clinical practice. Most of the articles are from China and report on diseases that are commonly seen in Western acupuncture practice. Many of the studies involve a large number of patients that practitioners in the West are not always able to see. Also, Eastern treatment combined with Western diagnostic equipment can yield very valuable information to which Western practitioners of oriental medicine do not often have access.
