Scope Metabolic Engineering is devoted to publishing original research on the targeted improvement of metabolic pathways for the production of fuels and chemicals from renewable resources. The journal will carry articles on the introduction, modification and optimization of pathways or enzymes in suitable host cells to allow them to produce novel compounds of industrial and medical interest. Analysis of metabolism to elucidate cell physiology relevant to biomedical systems and disease (such as diabetes, obesity, cancer) is also of interest. Strategies for altering the regulation of biochemical pathways and cellular processes will also be presented.

The SJR is a size-independent prestige indicator that ranks journals by their 'average prestige per article'. It is based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR is a measure of scientific influence of journals that accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from It measures the scientific influence of the average article in a journal, it expresses how central to the global scientific discussion an average article of the journal is.
