The Scientific Community use the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) to compare the Indian scientific output with three other countries.

No doubt, the number of papers from India is increasing steadily, but the growth rate is nowhere near that of China. India moved from the 13th rank in 1996 in terms of number of papers published in journals indexed by Web of Science to 10th in 2006, whereas China moved during the same period from 9th to the second position...
